Porto and Ferreira part ways
FC Porto have announced that coach Jesualdo Ferreira has left the club by mutual consent, a year before the end of the 64-year-old's contract was due to expire.
The Portuguese Liga outfit did not give any indication as to who would succeed Ferreira at Porto, saying in a statement: "Porto have released coach Jesualdo Ferreira from his contract by mutual consent – this decision is effective from today."
Ferreira arrived at Porto in 2006 from SC Braga and won three titles in a row. However, his reign has come to end after the Dragons failed to defend the championship this season, with a third-placed finish meaning they will not take part in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2002/03.
Porto did pick up some silverware this term, retaining the Portuguese Cup with a 2-1 win against second-division side GD Chaves and they will enter the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League in the play-off round.
