Barca reach Pep agreement
Barcelona have reached an agreement for Pep Guardiola to stay at Camp Nou. The coach's previous contract ran out on 30th June but the club have held successful talks with his agent to prolong his two-year stay as first-team boss.
Barca vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu is confident Guardiola will put pen to paper on the new deal when he returns from a trip to South Africa. Bartomeu said: "We have been talking to his agent for two days. We have an agreement and it just needs to be formalised when Pep returns from Africa."
While Guardiola prefers to sign shorter contracts, Barca are keen to offer their coach a long-term deal. "I hope he is here for many years, but right now we are ironing out the last details and until it is signed, we cannot say how long Guardiola will be in charge of the first team," added Bartomeu.
Guardiola has won seven trophies in his two seasons as first-team boss at Camp Nou after a successful campaign with Barca's reserve team. He was succeeded in that role by Luis Enrique, who has agreed to remain in charge of Barca B in the second division next term.
